CARNEVALE ITALIANO

Tuesday, March 06, 2012

This year Club Garibaldi celebrates their 130th anniversary and have organised a Carnevale with its Venetian theme, to be held at St Patrick’s College, Kilbirnie.  A day of fun, entertainment, dancing, food, wine and song! The Club wishes to share its heritage, and invite all Wellingtonians to this special event.

Club Garibaldi organised the annual Italian Festival for 15 years and this Carnevale will bring you  a taste of Italy. Stands include wood-fired pizza, pasta, Italian sausages, calamari, pastries and cakes, plus gelato, wines, beer and fresh roasted chestnuts. Other stalls will include travel and accommodation in Italy.

A variety of entertainment includes opera singers, pop opera by Tre-Belle, children dancing the traditional folk dance, the Tarantella, Italian music and song with violin, piano accordion and a 6 piece band.

Italian cars and motor-cycles will be on display at the entrance. There will be activities for children, including mask-making and painting. Italian costumes, and displays will create a unique atmosphere for all to enjoy this Carnevale Italiano.

To coincide with their anniversary celebrations, Club Garibaldi, the oldest known Italian club outside of Italy, will release a revised history book of Italian migration to the Capital "Alla Fine Del Mondo (To the Ends of the Earth)" which can be purchased on the day.
